DYNVA TODD
"I started working with gourds in 2002 after seeing one in a small gallery in Tucson. My father-in-law had a wood burner and Wuertz Gourd Farm was “right up the highway.” I’d already started creating masks made from clay which were kiln fired and then pit fired. I’d been using feathers, antlers, bones, horsehair and beads on these from the beginning. Seeing I could do the same using gourds captured my heart. Each mask I’ve made speaks to my spirit and soul! Teaching mask classes throughout my years in many festivals, including WSGS’ festivals and workshops, has given me great pleasure as I enjoy sharing what I know and have learned.
Gourds are so versatile. They can become totems of strength, vessels of many varieties, utensils of varying designs and even the bearer of the gift of water.
