JACLYN MILLER
My art is inspired by my travels and by nature. I am attempting to reduce my subject, whether it is an entire city or a small flower, down to the simplest elements of color and texture. In this way I can transform a memory that is deeply personal into a work that is universal. My hope is that everyone my art resonates with will see something different in it.
The use of wood in my work provides additional depth and weight to each piece, both figuratively and quite literally. Every piece of wood is a unique mix of grains, knots, colors, and textures; no two pieces are alike. I contrast the organic nature of the wood by presenting it in repeating geometric shapes. This repetition ties the entire piece together while also drawing attention to what makes each piece of wood unique and beautiful: its flaws and imperfections.
