JANET JERNIGAN
When I retired and moved to Whidbey Island, I was excited to renew my old passion of working with my hands. I was inspired by the beauty of the island & the nature around me. Most of my pieces begin with things found on the island, especially driftwood and rocks. I started with macrame & woven wall hangings hung on driftwood which I sanded & preserved. I started making micromacrame jewelry, which led to wire wrapping jewelry with stones I cut, sanded & polished myself. I also use larger rocks found on the island to create wire trees & animals inspired by the flora and fauna of the island. All of these art forms use similar techniques, whether I am working with cord, yarn or wire; all to express the beauty I see in nature around me. I find great joy in the creation of each and every piece.
